Why Tara?

The best Board is one comprised of individuals from unique backgrounds who come together as one to guide our schools to continually improve. My education, professional history in finance and organizational transformation, and my personal experience as a parent of young children in the district means I bring a perspective that is not yet represented on the board.

Many issues face our district at this moment: reduced funding, department reorganizations and ensuring children’s safety . My 24 years’ finance experience will be utilized in examining the budget to ensure all redundancies and additional revenues are taken advantage of before any reductions come near our classrooms. I am committed to transparent communication between district and parents about these and other issues as they arise. Creative solutions can be achieved with open communication between parents, teachers, and other district staff. I will advocate both for this and ensuring seats at the table will be filled by groups and individuals invested in the issue. Sustainable solutions are developed under these conditions and our children deserve our best.

Who is Tara?

I am the sole Mama of two young elementary students at Junction K-8 school. We love being part of the Junction community and seeing diversity thriving at a school making it seem much more like a big family. I was raised outside of Scranton, PA in a blue-collar family descended from coal miners who left one mine in their native country for another in Northeastern PA. Educated in the local Public Schools, I received a BA in Economics and Political Science with a minor in Gender Studies from Wilkes University. This launched my career in Finance for a luxury brand retailer and I received an MBA in Accounting and Marketing at the University of Scranton while working full time.

In 2007, I moved from PA to CA to work for Ross Stores which began my career shift from Finance to the layers between Technology and Finance. After leaving Ross, I went on to hold positions at Deloitte Consulting, Workday, RAND Corporation, and others before starting my own consulting firm during the pandemic where I engage with clients seeking creative solutions in their current architecture in all areas of Finance and adjacent areas.

Outside of work and parenting, I have volunteered for the Bay Area Crisis Center and Tri Valley Haven, was a certified Resource Parent for Agape Villages, and have traveled extensively usually in pursuit of my love of yoga and eating delicious food. My children have followed in my footsteps, quite literally, and have already visited 26 states and 1 other country with much more on the horizon.

I’m excited to utilize my skills to bring a new perspective to our amazing community. I want to see our schools run optimally so that our students extend their success from the classroom to life beyond.

What do I consider a teacher should be? One who breathes life into knowledge so that it takes new form in progress and civilization.
